Best Lip Plumpers That Actually Work – Like, For Real

Here at The Beauty Insider we adore a full pout, but then again who doesn’t? There’s just something so terribly appealing about a juicy pair of lips. Yes, they’re sexy (obviously) but it’s more than that.

It isn’t fair, but a perfect pout suggests youth and vitality and heck – all things good. Given that, I recently decided I needed one – and quickly. I don’t tend to muck about with my beauty (who has the time for that?) and so I booked in for a little dermal filler. Yep. I sure did.

In case you’re not across dermal fillers here’s a few details for you.

Dermal fillers are injectable materials that are used to plump deep lines, augment cheekbones, plump lips (hello!) or fill under-eye hollows. In fact, they can be injected pretty much anywhere you are craving volume.

I decided to have a touch injected into my upper lip which was a little thin for my liking. And then I got over-excited (as I tend to) and decided to have my bottom lip done too! Decision made I visited with registered nurse Natalie Abouchar at Privee Clinic who applied numbing cream to my mouth and then, began injecting.

After each tiny pin prick (the filler contains lidocaine so after the first few injections you feel very little) she massaged the filler into the right spot and then – done. My top lip was no longer a thin line and my bottom lip was full and lovely.

That week several people told me I looked fresher than usual. Coincidence? I think not.
Dermal filler injections vary in price depending on the brand, the salon and how much you use. Generally speaking, filler will cost about $550 for a full ml which could do both top and bottom lip. A full face could cost $2000 or more.

If you don’t fancy injections there are products about that will provide a less permanent effect. Here’s my pick of the bunch.

Freezeframe Lip Injection, $59. It’s creators say it contains two super high-tech ingredients but to be honest, I don’t know how this stuff works. All the same, it genuinely seems to. Every time I apply it my lip does appear more plump and I always get flattering comments.

Smashbox O-Plump Intuitive Lip Plumper, $37.  Contains Goji Berry-C Complex, ginkgo biloba pomegranate seed extract, marine botanicals and moisturising avocado oil to nourish and leave the lips appearing plump. Also, reacts to your pH to provide the shade of pink that’s just right for you.

Glamglow Plumprageous Gloss Lip Treatment, $35. Hyaluronic acid and vitamin C boost moisture levels and deliver a hit of essential nutrients. So that means smooth, soft lips. There’s also natural butters that do much the same. But then there’s specially chosen botanicals that contain plumping power. And they really do!
